Red Cross Releases New Emergency Notification App!

The American Red Cross has launched a new app called “Emergency.” This app alerts the user of potential dangers in their area or the area they choose. It is available in both the Google Play Store and Apple Store. The features in Emergency are designed to make the user feel safer and more aware of their surroundings.

At its base, “Emergency” is a personalized emergency notification system. The app will ask for a location and then send notifications based on what is happening in the area chosen. Monitor the people and places you care about with real-time local alerts for severe weather and hazards, including:

  • Hurricanes
  • Earthquakes
  • Floods
  • Tornado
  • Wintry Weather
  • Tsunami
  • Wildfire
  • Storms
  • Heat
  • Volcanos
  • Air Quality
  • Hazardous Materials
  • Sheltering Advice
  • Wind

The user has the ability to manage which locations they would like to get notifications for and which notifications to receive.

The Red Cross also designed this app to warn loved ones about harm coming their way. A new feature that sets this app apart from previous Red Cross apps is the ‘Family Safe’ feature. The user can add people they care about to the emergency alert system of the application. The user can immediately get in contact with the people they list in the ‘Family Safe’ feature, alert them of the danger, and inform them of the necessary precautions to take. Sometimes, only a few minutes are all that stands between safely evacuating and tragedy.

This app is very easy to use and uses very little memory space. As well as notifications about potential danger, “Emergency” also provides a “Toolkit” that turns the user’s phone into a flashlight, strobe light, or alarm. Also inside the Toolkit are basic first aid instructions and evacuation plans with rally points and escape routes. “Emergency” is a must-have for those that live in areas prone to inclement weather or have loved ones that do. Download it today at the Google Play Store and Apple Store.
